The female figures in this gouache work represent night and day. They are gazing down upon a decorative image of a bee hive which symbolises the world ; it's people aligned to the bees, each having his or her role to play within society. The sun flower represents not only the source of nectar for the bees, but also the life force itself which is why the all -seeing eye of the universe is revealed beneath it.
