This work in gouache is one of a series on the theme of the four elements and represents water. The eye/moon governs the tides and symbolises the spirit of the universe present throughout creation; all seeing; all knowing and linked to the image of the "Green Man". Life is shown both above and below water, the sea itself teeming with aquatic life. Man is also included in the work, having conquered/ lived in close proximity to the element through shipping and sailing vessels.
