This work in gouache is one of a series upon the theme of the elements and represents earth. The eye is symbolic of the spirit of the universe, present throughout creation and linked to the image of the " Green Man" ;all seeing; all knowing. In addition to the natural forms which emanate from the eye, man is also present in this work, piping his song in tune with nature.
