illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Brunel 200 - Animal Engineers (Bristol Zoo)-To celebrate the 200th of Isambard Kingdom Brunel
(famous Bristol resident, engineer and all round clever-
clogs), Bristol Zoo did a trail highlighting some of the
animal world's great engineers, with this guy to guide
visitors around.
illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - National Trust Children's Guide images-I have done several children's guides for National Trust
properties, getting facts about them across with fun
images and characters and puzzles.

illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Puzzle image (National Trust)-This was the centre image for a word puzzle, where you
had to link the type of wood with what it was used to
make (yew=longbows etc). I have done several
children's guides for National Trust properties, getting
facts about them across with fun images and characters
and puzzles.

illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - -One of a series of images to go with a quiz highlighting
serious conservation issues and facts about endangered
animals in a fun way. This one asked kids to spot the
differences between African and Asiatic lions - can you?
(I blush to admit I can't remember which was which...)
illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Napoleon (National Trust)-At Acorn Bank in Cumbria, there is a replica of a Roman
vase (understating things slightly; it's a great big metal
thing!) that was so admired by Napoleon that he
planned to steal it if and when he invaded England.
Fact!
illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Conservation Quest (Bristol Zoo)-One of a series of images to go with a quiz highlighting
serious conservation issues and facts about endangered
animals in a fun way. This one was to go with a bit
about the toilet habits of fruit bats!
illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Tortlepin Trail (Bristol Zoo)-This was for a trail around the zoo giving kids lots of
interesting facts about tortoise, turtles and terrapins.
Giant tortoises can grow to wiegh more than a small car
- FACT!
illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Acorn Bank Children's Guide (National Trust)-This was the cover image for this particular guide
illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - Conservation Quest (Bristol Zoo)-One of a series of images to go with a quiz highlighting
serious conservation issues and facts about endangered
animals in a fun way. Hopefully it is fairly self
explanitory which point this is highlighting...

illustrator - portfolio - Church, Sam - -One of a series of images to go with a quiz highlighting
serious conservation issues and facts about endangered
animals in a fun way. This one was tricky -
communicating the fact that African penguins are under
constant threat from oil pollution in a 'fun' way, when it
really isn't funny! The only angle had tht the penguin
should be living it up in their hot beach habitat (not in
the snow after all), except for the black stuff creeping
into the picture

A pen and ink man at heart, Sam works in a variety of media including gouache, watercolour and increasingly (despite a secret belief it is the devil's work), digitally. His trademarks are a sense of fun twinned with strong draughtsmanship.
