I studied illustration at Loughborough University School of Art and Design
(UK) and graduated with first degree honours. I live and work in Lincolnshire
with my partner, who is also an artist. I joined the Organisation Illustration
Agency in 2002.
I like to work in all areas of illustration but particularly enjoy illustrating
children’s books. I have produced a variety of titles including 'If Elephants
Wore Trousers', ‘Around the World in Eighty Tales’, ‘Aesop’s Fables', ‘The
Fourth Wise Man’, ‘Five Minute Christmas Stories’ and I have recently
illustrated a new version of the classic ‘Peter Pan’.
Presented with the Silver Award for children's book illustration by the
Association of illustrators I have exhibited in galleries around the country,
including the Royal College of Art. I have also begun to write and illustrate my
own stories, one of which is to be published in the coming year. This is an
area in which I really want to develop further!
My visual language has also been put to use in various magazines,
newspapers and for advertising purposes. Clients include ‘The BBC Radio
Times Magazine’ and ‘The Times’ Newspaper. I was delighted to illustrate the
‘Marks and Spencer’s’ Christmas Food Hall Range in 2005, which saw my
work appear on various packaging, posters and advertisements. I also
decorated the Cadburys Easter Chocalate Range in Easter the same year.
I think my visual style is figurative and friendly. I draw my inspiration from
colour, atmosphere and shape. Development of character and location are
essential to the work, as is the emphasis on design and humour. When not
illustrating, I enjoy walking and exploring the local woods where I live.
