Farida Zaman
Tableware, fine art, and stationery are just few of the wonderful products
designed by Farida Zaman, illustrator and designer. Farida’s clients include
advertising agencies, product manufacturers, and publishers and she is
represented by Storybook Arts Inc., in New York state for her children’s book
illustrations. Her beautiful artwork has appeared in school text books,
children’s books, magazines, packaging, and clothing. Her colourful style and
whimsical expressions add life and vibrancy to all of her work. Farida’s
artwork is global – she has done posters for London Transport, produced
images for the Latin Grammy Awards, designed packaging for The Body Shop,
sold prints at the American Crafts Museum in New York, designed greeting
cards for UNICEF in Geneva, and creatwed menus for restaurants in Toronto.
This reflects her background and upbringing: she has lived in the United
States, Canada, South Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe along with
wide travels in North Africa and the Far East. She draws inspiration from the
colours of Marrakech, textiles in Bangkok, the markets of Istanbul, New
York’s energy and London’s cosmopolitanism.
Through her children’s book illustrations, Farida has given book readings at
libraries and children’s book stores, run workshops for art classes at
elementary and high schools, and taught enrichment programs to help her
audience understand illustration as an integral part of story telling. She has
done readings and art demonstration classes at schools in London, New York,
and Toronto.
Farida trained at London’s Chelsea School of Art and graduated from the
Wimbledon School of Art. She is a member of the Society of Illustrators in
New York and the Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators.
Following her studies in London, Farida lived in Geneva and the New York
area. She now lives and works from her home studio in Toronto where she
lives with her daughter, son, and husband.
