illustrator - portfolio - Metcalfe, Emma - Family Guide to History of Cornish Tin Mining Page-On the Move Above Ground - spread from 'A Family Guide to Mining in Central Cornwall', an illustrated booklet comissioned by Cornish Mining World Heritage Site to coincide with the 2008 opening of the mineral tramway trails.

The idea of the guide was to 'liven up' what could be seen as a dry, industrial subject - the history of Mining in Cornwall. The illustrations help children empathise with mine workers, many of whom would be as young as nine years old when they started work at the mine.
