Chuck Whelon
I am a professional illustrator, based in San Francisco, CA.
I specialize in a lively cartoon style that makes use of bright colors and fun, dynamic characters. Depending on the assignment I can easily adapt my style to appeal to older or younger readers. I particularly enjoy working on projects that are puzzle or game-related, but am happy to take on any assignment, large or small.
I have had extensive experience illustrating magazine articles, comic strips, board games, puzzles, product packaging, advertisements and picture books published by a diverse range of clients including Yahoo!, Carus Publishing and Leapfrog, among others.
I began my career in the UK illustrating award-winning, internationally distributed language teaching coursebooks and other materials for publishers including Heinemann Educational, Macmillan ELT and BBC Worldwide.
In 1995 I moved to the USA, where I continued to work as an illustrator, but found myself moving more into graphic design until I eventually landed a job working full-time as an art director at the ad agency Ogilvy & Mather in San Francisco. After a few years, though, I realized that I missed illustration too much, and returned to doing what I love best on a full-time basis.
I have very strong print and web production skills, and can deliver files electronically in whatever format you require.
Thanks for reading!
Chuck.
