Lisa Tarr
After a successful 15-year high-tech career I’ve taken advantage of the opportunity to make a career change into the “field of my dreams”, children’s illustration.

My goal is to freelance for companies and publishers where my artwork is a natural fit. My main focus has been illustration geared towards children depicting interesting characters, animals and creatures. However I’ve discovered that my art not only appeals to young readers but is intriguing to teens and young adults alike. Although my work is conceived with book covers and picture books in mind, I am also at home in other areas of children’s and kid’s illustration, whether for character design and development, packaging or branding.

Artist statement

Think for a minute of some favorite stories from your youth. Can you recall the images? Do you see the frightening witches and goblins, the fire-breathing dragons, or the fantastical scenes of the elves dancing around in the dense woods? Those images from my youth stick with me to this day! They motivate me to awaken a child’s imagination like mine was brought to life back then. As an artist and illustrator, I want to continue to live in that world of children’s stories, whether classic or new, and bring it to life before your eyes while the words sing in the background. My challenge is to engage, enlighten and inspire the multimedia-driven young readers of today and bring them back to books. My hope is to create vivid visuals that invoke compassion, love, sadness, excitement and fear in readers of all ages. Success to me is to have readers return to the book again and again to relive the experience of the story.
